The county has a total area of 5,363 km².
The South side comprises the Carpathian Mountains (Southern Carpathians and Eastern Carpathians) with Făgăraş Mountains, Bucegi Mountains, Piatra Mare Mountains, Piatra Craiului Mountains and Postăvaru Mountains.
