As a Democratic Party member, in 1976 Moore worked as the New Mexico coordinator under Terry Sanford, who eventually lost his position to Jimmy Carter. Disliking the decision he left the party. Later on, he joined the Republican Party, and left soon after. In 2006 he was endorsed by the Green Party to run for Senate in the 2006 United States midterm elections. In 2007, Moore joined the Socialist Party.
