Brothers (Danish: Brødre) is a 2004 Danish drama film directed by Susanne Bier, written by Bier and Anders Thomas Jensen. Brothers won the Audience Award (narrative) at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. This is also Connie Nielsen's first Danish film, even though she was born and raised in Denmark. Bier's film is a drama about a Danish officer, Michael (Ulrich Thomsen), who is sent away to the ISAF operation in Afghanistan for three months. His first mission there is to find a young radar technician who had been separated from his squad some days earlier. While on the search, his helicopter is shot down and he is taken as a P.O.W., but is reported dead to the family.
His wife Sarah (Connie Nielsen) and younger brother Jannik (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) both deeply mourn him, and that brings them closer together...
