When Cassie was six years old, Sharon's friend Grace Turner (Jennifer Gareis) decided to track Cassie down, as it was believed that Sharon and Nicholas Newman's (Joshua Morrow) newborn son, Noah was going to die. Cassie had been adopted by a woman named Alice Johnson (Tamara Clatterbuck), who had abandoned Cassie, leaving her with her frail, elderly mother, Millie (Ernestine Mercer).
