Anna Cecilia Malmström (born 15 May 1968) is a Swedish politician currently serving as Minister for European Union Affairs in the Swedish government. Prior to her appointment as Minister for EU Affairs on 6 October 2006, she had served as a Member of the European Parliament since 1999. When she was MEP she was member of European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs. She was also a substitute for the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection.
Cecilia Malmström was born in Stockholm but grew up in Gothenburg and in France. She speaks Swedish, English, Spanish and French fluently, and also decent German and Italian. She currently resides in Gothenburg with her husband and two twin daughters.
During her time as MEP she also initiated the oneseat.eu web campaign , which aims to make the European Parliament permanently seated in Brussels.
