Charles Donald "Sam" Gemar (born 4 August 1955 in Yankton, South Dakota) is an American astronaut with NASA and a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army. He served as a pilot in the armed forces. As a member of the armed forces Gemar received numerous awards and honors including a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Intelligence Achievement Medal. He has received a number of honors from NASA, including the NASA Achievement Medal, 3 NASA Space Flight Medals and many others. Charles Gemar has flown on 3 shuttle mission (STS-38, STS-48, STS-62). Gemar has completed 385 orbits of the earth and 578 hours in space. He has also served in different positions in NASA including as a CAPCOM for shuttle missions. Gemar is married with 2 children.
