Named for Charles William Eliot, the president of Harvard University who was responsible for introducing the elective course system, it first opened for students in September 1931 with 660 students. This was followed by the addition of the shower and locker rooms in November 1941, the gymnasium and shops in June 1950, two home making rooms and a band room in 1953, two transportable buildings in September 1955, and the “E” building in 1960.
