Dorothy and Blanche are busy choosing the perfect dresses to wear at an upcoming museum fund raiser. Unfortunately, Dorothy's latest ensemble was just rejected by her two friends. Suddenly, a man by the name of Buddy Rourke shows up looking for Rose. He turns out to be a very kind, cheerful, and courteous man, and tells Rose that he and her late husbands Charlie were best friends during the War in Europe in World War Two. They were with the 32nd Airborne Division. Rose knew nothing of him since Charlie was very sensitive on the stories of war. Buddy had hoped to meet Charlie again but never found the time to visit St. Olaf, Minnesota. Rose and Buddy decide to go on a date the next day to reminisce more on the days in which Charlie was still alive, among other memories.
