Many of the families are employed by NAS Patuxent River, government contractors, St. Mary's College of Maryland, St Mary's County government, and traditional agriculture and water-related businesses.
Chopticon High School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Maryland State Department of Education.
