Kattan was born in Sherman Oaks, California. His father, Kip King (né Jerome C. Kattan), is an actor and voice actor who appeared on the series Reno 911! as Larrie Plum. His mother, Hajnalka E. Biro, was once photographed for Playboy and worked as a model in '60s London. His father is of Iraqi Jewish descent and his mother, a native of Budapest, Hungary, is a Buddhist. The two divorced when Kattan was a toddler and his mother later married Dr. Marc Joslyn. Kattan lived on Bainbridge Island, Washington where he attended Bainbridge High School, and graduated in 1989. He has a half-brother named Andrew Joslyn who resides in the Northwest, in Seattle, Washington, and is 12 years younger than Kattan.
