Christiane D. Fellbaum, born in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany, has lived in the United States since 1969. After graduating from Princeton University with a PhD in linguistics, she became a part of the Cognitive Science department under George Armitage Miller and has played an active role in the development of WordNet.
