Christina Romer (née Duckworth; born on December 25, 1958 in Alton, Illinois, USA) is the Class of 1957 Garff B. Wilson Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley and Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers in the Obama administration. After her nomination and before the Obama administration took office, Romer was tasked with co-authoring the administration's plan to recover from the 2008 recession. With economist Jared Bernstein, Romer co-authored Obama's plan for economic recovery. In a January 2009 video presentation, she discussed details of the job creation package that the Obama administration submitted to Congress. She graduated from Glen Oak High School in Canton, Ohio, in June 1977. She obtained her bachelor's degree in economics from The College of William & Mary in 1981, and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985.
