Clear's childhood was generally happy. She lived with her mother and father in a small New York town until her father died. He had gone to the store and was shot in the head by a man robbing it. His death caused a rift in the family, and later on, Clear's mother re-married, and got rid of Clear when her step-father decided that he didn't want a child. Clear went back to her childhood home where she lived with her dog, while also maintaining her father's cabin across a river from her house. She attended Mt. Abraham high school, and was classmates with Alex Browning, whom she rarely spoke with. In 2000, her French class was set to travel to Paris, France, on a field trip.
