The Commons are Freebase-created categories of information that contain topics that have been organized by the type of things that they are. For example, the Music Commons contains thousands of topics that have been typed as Musical Artist, Musical Instrument, Musical Group, and more. The Commons provide a starting point for creating collections of topics that can be added to bases. For more information see the types definition and Creating Views for a Base.
