Created in 1988 as a development group in AT&T;'s Bell Labs, the group produced AT&T;'s in-house backup software, Automatic Backup, Archive and Recovery Software. AT&T; CommVault was spun off with Lucent in 1996 and later that year went private with a management buyout. Their current headquarters are located in Oceanport, New Jersey. The company went public in September 2006.
