The company also sells sulfate of potash (SOP) that is used in special fertilizers for chloride-sensitive and high-value crops such as wine grapes, various nuts and citrus fruits. Compass Minerals is the largest producer of SOP in the North America.
The company was formerly known as Salt Holdings Corporation and changed its name to Compass Minerals International, Inc. in December 2003 when it was listed on New York Stock Exchange.
