Paolo was born in New York City, New York. His father is a writer and his mother is a musician. He attended the Professional Performing Arts School, the high school from which Alicia Keys and Claire Danes graduated. He began taking acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and now studies with Peggy Lewis. For several summers, he attended Appel Farm Arts and Music Center Summer Arts Camp located in Elmer, NJ.
Paolo began acting at the age of nine, first appearing on the soap opera All My Children. He first came to wide attention when he played Zachary Connor, a preteen murderer-rapist in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
