A view is a collection of topics that you have created based on certain criteria. For example, let's say you have a base about Los Angeles bands, and you want to create views based on musical genre, like LA Metal Bands, LA Electronic Bands, and LA Goth Bands. You could start by going to the Music Commons and creating a view of bands where Los Angeles has been entered for the Place Musical Career Began field. You could save that as a view of LA Bands, and then enter additional filter criteria for Musical Genre to create individual, genre-based views. Each time you create a new view you have the option to save it to any of the bases you administer, or to your personal homepage.
Full information about working with the Filter View can be found in the Using the Filter View help topic, but here are the basic steps.
- Navigate to a list of topics that you want to use to create your view. This could be a view that has been created by another user, or a view of all the topics contained in an area of the Freebase commons.
- Click Edit View.
- Follow the instructions under Creating a New View in Using the Filter View to create your view.
- Click Save and select the base where you want your view to appear.
Managing Views
You can manage which views appear on you base homepage as Featured Views, as well as the order in which they are presented on the homepage.
- Click All Views beneath your featured views.
- Click on the icon that looks like dots in a square and drag the view to another location in the list. Move a view to the top of a list by clicking on the up arrow. You can also move views between Featured Views and More Views. Views under the More Views header will only be visible to users if they click All Views on your base homepage.
