Dadeland Mall is a large enclosed shopping mall located in Kendall, Florida, southwest of Miami. The mall is currently owned and operated by the Simon Property Group and opened on October 1, 1962 as a small outdoor shopping center, but was remodeled over the years into an enclosed regional mall.
When Dadeland opened as an open-air center, the anchors were Burdines and Jordan Marsh. At the time, the center also boasted a Food Fair grocery store, full-service drug store (Gray Drugs) and upscale cafeteria (the Forum).
A massive construction project in the 1960s eventually doubled the mall by twinning it (leaving the huge Burdines in the middle), with J.C. Penney at the eastern end. A feature of this expansion was the opening of the King of the Mall, an enormous Burger King (whose corporate headquarters were then located across from Dadeland on North Kendall Drive).A 1983 enclosure added Saks and Lord & Taylor.
