Daniel Wallace (born 1959) is an American author, best known for his 1998 novel Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions, the basis for the Tim Burton film Big Fish. Wallace was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He has three sisters. He attended Emory University and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, studying English and philosophy. His first job was at a vet, cleaning cages and squeezing anal glands. He did not graduate from college until May 2008, instead taking a job with a trading company in Nagoya, Japan. He currently lives in Chapel Hill with his wife and son.
