Set in the Los Angeles Police Department in April 1992, Dark Blue takes place just days before the acquittal of four officers in the beating of black motorist Rodney King and the subsequent L.A. riots. The movie begins with footage of the Rodney King beatings and then switches to a year after showing Sgt. Eldon Perry (Kurt Russell), a corrupt cop, walking around in an apartment stressed out. He grabs a shotgun and pistol, and the movie cuts to two men in a car five days earlier. The two men, Darryl Orchard (Kurupt) and Gary Sidwell (Dash Mihok) appear to rob a convenience store in order to actually steal a safe and in the process kill four people and injure one.
