Sir David Hare (born 5 June 1947) is an English playwright and theatre and film director. Hare was born David Rippon in St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, the son of Agnes (née Gilmour) and Clifford Theodore Rippon, a sailor.
