Named after the renowned B.C. Lieutenant Governor, David Lam Park is a major public open space in Vancouver's new Concord Pacific Place Beach neighborhood. PWL's design for the Park's Phase II area complements the adjacent active park space by providing additional active programming for residents, tourists, and business professionals frequenting the area. Reflecting his cultural origins, David Lam's commemorative garden is the focal point of the park, with a Chinese-inspired planting scheme.
1300 Pacific Boulevard @ Drake, Vancouver, BC
Part of the huge redevelopment project on the former Expo 86 site, this seaside park provides locals and visiting strollers with open space and respite from the huge high-rise complexes surrounding it. Set around a large central grass field and with views of False Creek, the park contains basketball and tennis courts, a soccer field, a playground and huge modernist sculptures, and it borders the False Creek Seawall, with its endless walking, rollerblading and cycling opportunities. In the summer months, the Vancouver Jazz Festival (p.56) and other outdoor concerts and events utilise the open space, which comfortably seats thousands. A great place to get a coffee, sit down and read a book. --- From LIVING IN VANCOUVER
