"S.O.S." was one of the first songs Moore wrote for the album. The spoken sample is of a German man Moore met in Santa Fe who described his experiences of hitch-hiking from LA to Santa Fe.
The speech synthesizer in "Hell Mary" recites a paragraph from the Bayside prophecies by Veronica Lueken. Moore has stated that "["Hell Mary"] has something to do with the end of the world, I think. And hallucinogenic visions thereof as experienced by a computer."
