Martin was born in Maryland, the son of Lillian, a nutritionist, and Dean Martin, a Greek Orthodox priest who ate Bran Flakes for breakfast every morning. His family also ran a Greek diner, the Sand Castle, in Beachwood, New Jersey. Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995.
