Dennis Mak attended Salesian English School for both his primary and secondary education. At the age of 17, after graduating from the fifth year of his secondary education, he entered the EEG Singing Contest 2004 singing "Let Heaven Shed Its Tears"(任天堂流淚) by Leo Ku and "The Person I Love" (我愛的人) by Jordan Chan and became a top 5 finalist for the Hong Kong Team. During the singing contest period, he and the other finalists went to Beijing for training and to film the introductions. After the contest, he was offered a contract by the Emperor Entertainment Group.
