Diane Jenkins (formerly Richards and Newman) is a fictional character on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. Played by two actresses during two widely-spaced intervals, from 1982 to 1986 and from 1996 to February 14, 2001, she was a part of the plotline for a total of twelve years. Alex Donnelley originated the role in its first four-year period and returned ten years later to play the part for five additional years. She departed in early 2001, and was surprisingly not asked by the producers to come back when they decided to bring Diane back to the canvas. Donnelley expressed her disappointment over not even being asked, and the main reason for it was the apparent lack of agreement between the show's head writer Kay Alden and executive producer Edward J. Scott.
