Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Fayed was was the son of billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed (Arabic: محمد الفايد), the owner of British department store Harrods, Fulham Football Club, and the Hôtel Ritz Paris. His mother was Samira Kashoggi.
Fayed was a student at Collège Saint Marc before attending the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland. He also briefly attended Sandhurst.
