The Draenei are a subset of the Eredar, a powerful, noble race of beings. Most of these beings, however, fell and were corrupted by the demon Sargeras, and in fact Archimonde, the leader of the demonic Burning Legion, and Kil'jaeden, who induced the invasion of Azeroth by the Orcs, are of the same race as the Draenei, albeit larger, more demonic, and winged. The Draenei, led by Velen, refused to have anything to do with the demons and fled to the homeworld of the Orcs, which they called Draenor. During their many travels the Draenei met the benevolent Naaru, which helped them on their long exile from their home world.
