Duane Lee Chapman II was born the first son of Duane "Dog" Chapman and Dog's first wife, LaFonda Sue Darnall (née Honeycutt). When Duane Lee was three years old, his father was sent to prison. During Dog's incarceration, Duane Lee's parents divorced; he did not see his father again until he was eleven years old, when Dog gained visitation rights to see him and his brother Leland.
Duane Lee spent his early years in Pampa, Texas, but moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in his teen years. When he was seventeen, Duane Lee was kicked out of school. Meanwhile at home, Duane Lee was fighting with his stepfather, resulting in his mother's sending him to live with his father.
