Dune itself is considered by many to be the greatest science fiction novel of all time; it was the first bestselling hardcover science fiction novel, and is frequently cited as the best-selling science fiction novel in history. Dune won the 1966 Hugo Award and the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel, and was later adapted into a 1984 film as well as a 2000 television miniseries. The novel's first two sequels appeared as a miniseries in 2003. The Dune universe has also inspired a series of Dune video games, including Dune II, the first modern real-time strategy game.
