Robinson attended Clarke Central High School in Athens, Georgia and was a three-sport standout in football, basketball, and track. As a senior, on defense, he had four interceptions and eight passes defensed. On offense, he rushed for six touchdowns, and ran back a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns.
Robinson played college football at South Carolina. He originally was a safety but was switched to cornerback for his junior year. As a senior he was the Gamecocks Defensive Most Valuable Player. He finished his career with 114 tackles and five interceptions.
