Eisbären Berlin (English: Berlin Polar Bears) are a professional ice hockey team based in Berlin, Germany. They compete in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the highest level of play in professional German ice hockey and are also one of the league's founding members. They won the DEL championship four times in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. The franchise also captured the East German Ice Hockey Championship 15 times before reunification. The team used to play in the Berlin district of Hohenschönhausen. Since their inception, the Eisbären had played their home games at the famous "Wellblechpalast" stadium, but in autumn 2008, the team relocated to their new home arena, the O2 World. The "Wellblechpalast" is still being used as a training facility. The franchise was acquired by the Anschutz Entertainment Group in 1999.
