Stardock had to create a new game by scratch after it could not acquire the rights to Master of Magic from Atari. This is considered a new game in a different universe than Master of Magic or other such games. A universe in which there was a Cataclysm of the old powers that almost destroyed the world and now “channelers” pick up the shards of magic to rebuild their civilizations.
