Originally opened in 1989 as a joint venture of New England Development and The Pyramid Companies, its original anchors included JCPenney, Sears and G. Fox. In 1992 Lechmere opened as a fourth anchor store. The G. Fox store was renamed Filene's in 1993, while the Lechmere was shuttered in 1997 when the entire chain was liquidated. Lord & Taylor bought the former Lechmere location in 1998 and expanded the space by half before opening its own store in 1999.
