Emilio was born in Staten Island, New York, the eldest child of actor Ramón Estévez (Martin Sheen) and artist Janet Templeton. His siblings are Ramon Estevez, Carlos Estevez (Charlie Sheen), and Renee Estevez. Unlike his brother Charlie, Emilio and his other siblings did not adopt their father's stage name because they didn't want to be disrespectful to the heritage.
