Goosby received his M.D. (1978) from the University of California, San Francisco, where he also completed his residency (1981). Goosby then completed a two-year Kaiser Fellowship at UCSF in General Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Infectious Diseases.(1983).
Goosby has over 25 years experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS. Goosby treated patients at San Francisco General Hospital when HIV/AIDS first began to emerge and take its toll in the early 1980s.
