Evaline Ness (born Evaline Michelow; April 24, 1911 in Union City, Ohio- August 12, 1986)(died at 75) grew up in Pontiac, Michigan. Ness studied at Ball State Teachers College before deciding to become an illustrator and author in 1960, with the publishing of The Bridge, by Charlton Osborn. She won a Caldecott Medal in 1967 for Sam, Bangs, and Moonshine. Evaline was also a highly paid commercial artist.
