During the events of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, the Dark Lord Sauron ¬タヤ the primary antagonist ¬タヤ controlled his minions from within the tower of Barad-dᅢᄏr in his land of Mordor. The most notable example may be found in The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume of The Lord of the Rings as originally printed. Frodo Baggins has a vision of the Eye in the Mirror of Galadriel:
In the book, there are many other instances where Sauron is referred to as the "Red Eye" - which have led some to assume that it was his physical form. However, a closer reading shows that the "Eye" was a metaphysical reflection of his piercing will.
