Famicom Grand Prix: F-1 Race (ファミコングランプリ F1レース) is a racing game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released in Japan on October 30, 1987 for the Family Computer Disk System. This game was also used for a contest held in Japan. High scorers won a special Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch sealed in a case shaped like Nintendo's Famicom Disk System mascot, Disk-kun. Nintendo had plans to release the Famicom Grand Prix series in the North American regions, but then later decided not to localize it.
The game involves Formula One cars and is a top-down racing game. The player can either choose to play alone, or with other cars. The cars have a certain amount of health, tire life and fuel, which can decrease if the player crashes into a wall, crashes into another car, or drives off the road. Health, tires and fuel can be regenerated if the player takes a pit-stop, but doing so takes away racing time. Winning the Grand Prix earns you money, which can be used to unlock new cars.
