Fitchburg is a city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 39,102 at the 2000 census. Fitchburg is home to Fitchburg State College as well as 17 public and private elementary and high schools. Fitchburg was first settled in 1730 and was officially incorporated in 1764.
