Hex (Bell) is a young female hexagon living in a two-dimensional world inhabited by various geometric characters. She lives with her grandparents, Arthur and Arlene, because her mother and father were given the death penalty for their beliefs in the third dimension, by the circle elite people who convicted them of heresy.
The circle people (which represent the power elite, parodying largely mainstream science, and politicians), know about the third dimension, but keep it hidden from the Flatlanders to keep power over them.
