Amy Nicholls is the new night nurse at the Mercy Falls Hospital on the Isle of Wight. Her colleague Helen Perez introduces her to the eight children. These are the only patients in the decrepit hospital, which still operates only because of overload after a railway accident. The orphan Maggie is very mysterious, she suffers from cystic fibrosis.
