Frank McCarthy

Frank McCarthy (June 8, 1912 – December 1, 1986) graduated from the Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1933. He worked as an executive producer for 20th Century Fox and Universal following retirement from the military. During his career in the army, McCarthy, a former reporter, press agent, and holder of a bachelor's degree from the Virginia Military Institute, rose to the ranks to become a brigadier general. He received the Army Distinguished Service Medal when he was a Colonel assigned to the General Staff Corps. During World War II he served as an aide to General George C. Marshall. He worked for nearly 20 years toward producing a film biography of General George S. Patton, succeeding triumphantly when his film stormed the Academy Awards in 1970, winning Oscars for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. As the film's producer, he accepted George C.
