"Fresh Bones" was the fifteenth episode of the second season of The X-Files science-fiction television series created by Chris Carter, and deals with voodoo.
A US Marine stationed at a INS camp for immigrants drives himself into a tree and is killed. Mulder and Scully are called by the grieving and fearful wife to investigate her husband's death, which is believed by others to be suicide. Her fears of a voodoo curse seem only to be reinforced by the beliefs and actions of many of the local residents, including a few of the other Marines. Mulder and Scully go to the camp to see the body but it has been replaced with the corpse of a dog.
The symbol used to mark the bodies of the dead Marines is a modified version of the Veve (voodoo symbol) of Papa Legba, the lwa of the crossroads (i.e., between life & death).
