The eastern portion of the city's economy focuses mainly on the base and servicing those who live there. Western Fussa-shi lies on the banks of the Tama River, is home to many parks, recreational facilities, two Japanese sake breweries, and well-groomed bicycle paths. Facing west from anywhere in the city includes a stunning panoramic view of the mountains which surround Tokyo, including Mt. Fuji on a clear day.
Fussa operates public elementary and junior high schools.
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Board of Education operates public high schools.
