Garage Punk bands usually distance themselves from hardcore and political punk bands, though an exception is The (International) Noise Conspiracy, who could also be considered Anarcho-punk.
The genre originated from the 1970s and 1980s punk bands, as well as the 1960s American garage rock bands who (influenced by the sound and attitude of British rhythm and blues groups) created a cruder, more urgent sound.
