Ennackal Chandy George Sudarshan (born September 16, 1931), also E.C.G. Sudarshan, is a prominent Indian American physicist, author, and professor at The University of Texas at Austin. George Sudarshan was born in Pallam, Kottayam district, Kerala, India. He graduated with honours from the Madras Christian College in 1951. He obtained his master's degree at the University of Madras (India) in 1952. Then he moved to Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and worked there for a brief period with Homi Bhabha as well as others. Subsequently he moved to University of Rochester in New York with Robert Marshak as a graduate student. In 1958, he received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Rochester. Sudarshan has made significant contributions to several areas of physics.
