Berke Landers (Ben Foster) and his childhood sweetheart Alison (Melissa Sagemiller) were the quintessential high-school couple. Until she dumps him. His world crumbling around him, Berke tries to figure out a way to win Alison back with the help of his friends Felix (Colin Hanks) and Dennis (Sisqo), hindered by the entrance of her new man, 'foreign' student and ex-boy band member Striker (Shane West).
With the help of Felix's sister Kelly (Kirsten Dunst), a talented songwriter and singer, Berke wins a minor role in his school's upcoming musical 'A Midsummer Night's Rockin' Eve', (a musical version of William Shakespeares' 'A Midsummer Night's Dream') directed by the oddball and demanding Dr Desmond Forrest Oates (Martin Short), in which Alison and Striker play two of the romantic lead roles.
