Giorgio Federico Ghedini

Giorgio Federico Ghedini (July 11, 1892, in Cuneo – March 25, 1965, in Nervi) was an Italian composer. Ghedini studied organ, piano and composition in his native Turin, then graduated in composition in Bologna under Marco Enrico Bossi in 1911. Giorgio Federico Ghedini (July 11, 1892, in Cuneo – March 25, 1965, in Nervi) was an Italian composer. Ghedini studied organ, piano and composition in his native Turin, then graduated in composition in Bologna under Marco Enrico Bossi in 1911. He worked as conductor for a certain time, then he gave up to devote himself to teaching. He worked as teacher of composition in Turin (1918-1937), in Parma (1937-1941), finally in Milan, where he directed the local Conservatory (1951-1962). Among his pupils the most eminent were Marcello and Claudio Abbado, Luciano Berio, Niccolò Castiglioni, Carlo Pinelli, Fiorenzo Carpi. He died in Nervi, nearby Genua in 1965. The composer was a deep lover of ancient music, in fact he transcribed many works of such composers as Girolamo Frescobaldi Claudio Monteverdi, Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli. Ghedini's works are often inspired to music of Renaissance and baroque Era, but combined with a very personal language which mixes up ancient and modern styles.... less
